Concrete to walk, park and build on in New Bedford, MA

Form & Finish New Bedford Concrete builds and repairs the concrete that homes, rentals and small businesses rely on, starting every job with the ground and base underneath, since that's what keeps a slab flat.

A wide concrete driveway with dark paver borders leads to a large home, framed by landscaped garden beds and lawn.

  • Curving concrete driveway bordered by narrow darker strips, lawns and dense landscaping leading toward a house.

    Concrete driveway building

Cracked, sinking or puddled driveways usually failed underneath, so we dig out the old base, pack new stone and pour a slab that sheds water away.

  • Large light-colored concrete pool deck surrounds a swimming pool, with lounge chairs, seating, and an outdoor kitchen.

    Concrete patio construction

For a patio you'll actually use, we check where the yard's water runs before forming, then pour a slab pitched gently away from your back door.

  • Raised stamped concrete patio with a circular fire pit and wood-grain texture beside a gray house.

    Stamped concrete services

Stamped concrete gives you the look of stone, brick or slate in one poured slab, pressed with a pattern and colored while the surface is still workable.

  • Concrete sidewalk curves across a green lawn toward a large white house beneath a clear blue sky.

    Concrete sidewalk building

Heaved or chipping walks catch toes, so we replace them with a new walk on packed base, with control joints, grooves that tell cracks where to go.

  • Concrete patio with multicolored stone pavers, a circular fire pit, white chairs, and a low stone retaining wall.

    Garage floor concrete

When a garage floor is pitted, cracked or tipping toward the wall, we break it out and pour a new slab thick enough for your car and workbench.

  • Stamped decorative concrete patio with a textured pattern beneath stone columns, bordered by lush garden plants.

    Decorative concrete

Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone and custom borders, a way to dress up an entry, walk or patio without giving up the strength of a plain slab.

  • Concrete retaining wall made of gray blocks, extending along a gravel slope beneath trees.

    Concrete retaining walls

Our retaining walls hold back a sloped yard with steel inside and drainage behind, because trapped water pushing on a wall is what usually tips it.

  • Decorative stamped concrete patio in warm brown with a curved raised border beside a house.

    Concrete floor installation

Basements, sheds, workshops and commercial spaces all need a floor that sits flat, so we grade and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab rests on, before pouring.

  • Curved swimming pool surrounded by a broad concrete deck, with stone pavers, a raised spa, and a block retaining wall.

    Concrete pool decks

Around a pool, the deck has to shed splash water and stay comfortable underfoot, so we slope it toward drains and give it a finish with grip.

  • Broad concrete steps lead to a modern home’s dark front door, beside a covered porch with wooden posts.

    Concrete steps construction

Crumbling front steps are a fall waiting to happen, and we rebuild them with even risers and a broom finish, a light texture that gives shoes grip.

  • Stamped concrete patio with a brown stone-like pattern beside a stone house and landscaped garden beds.

    Slab foundation building

A slab foundation for an addition, garage or new building starts with the ground, so we dig, pack and set the steel before a single truck shows up.

  • Concrete patio with a stone outdoor fireplace, low retaining wall, planters, chairs and a dark umbrella.

    Foundation installation

  • New concrete patio with large rectangular sections behind a brick house, seen from above.

    Concrete parking lot building

Landlords and small business owners call us when a lot is cracking or holding water, and we build it with a heavier base sized for cars and trucks.

  • Wide stamped-concrete steps and walkways winding around a small ornamental tree in front of a house.

    Concrete footings

Decks, porches and sheds rest on footings, the concrete pads that spread the weight into solid ground, and we dig them below where frost can heave them.

  • Decorative concrete patio with light stone-pattern stamping and curved reddish-brown steps beside a stone seating wall and wood pergola.

    Foundation raising

If floors slope or doors stick because part of the house has settled, we look at why it moved, then lift and support that section back toward level.

Why New Bedford calls Form & Finish

I traded a desk job for work I could stand back and look at, and started this business in 2020. What I care about most is the work hidden under the slab, and explaining it so you know what you're paying for.

  • Same person, estimate to pour

I'm the one who walks your yard and writes the estimate, and I'm on site running our own crew the day it's poured.

  • Quotes you can compare

Our estimates list the base work, the mix and what's included, so you can lay them next to another quote line by line.

  • Permits sorted before we dig

We figure out which offices your job goes through before anyone breaks ground, and we tell you early about anything that needs your signature.

  • Pours planned around weather

We schedule each pour around the forecast and the cure, not around squeezing one more job into the week, because rushed concrete shows it later.

Look through these examples of driveways, patios, steps and walls to find finishes and shapes you like, then bring them up when we meet.

Concrete questions we hear in New Bedford

Don't see your question here? Call (508) 501-9902 or send us a note, and I'm happy to talk through the second and third question too.

How much does a new concrete driveway or patio cost in New Bedford?

It depends on your yard, so I give you a number only after I've seen it. Size, how much old concrete and soft ground has to come out, how much base goes back in, the thickness, the steel and the finish all move the price. A stamped or colored surface costs more than a plain broom finish, and a tight backyard with no truck access adds labor.

Why is one concrete quote so much cheaper than another?

The cheaper quote usually skimps on the base, the part nobody sees on day one, by raking the dirt level instead of digging out and packing stone. That slab tends to settle with the ground, so if your budget is tight, I'd rather you go plain on the finish than cut corners underneath. For work the state's home improvement contractor law covers, a job estimated at $1,000 or more also needs a written contract with the terms that law requires.

How long will I be without my driveway or patio after the pour?

The pour itself is the short part, and the curing, the time concrete needs to harden before it takes weight, is what keeps you off it. How soon you can walk on it and then drive on it depends on the mix and the weather, and I'll tell you what to expect for your job before we start. Digging out, base work and any permit come first, so the estimate visit is where we work out your schedule.

Does a concrete contractor need to be registered in Massachusetts?

For work on an existing, owner-occupied home of one to four units, Massachusetts requires home improvement contractor registration, though driveways are on the state's exempt list for that registration. New construction, larger buildings and investment, vacation or second homes fall outside that law, and some projects also need a licensed construction supervisor, whose license you can check with the state. We're licensed and insured, and we'll tell you which rules apply to your job.

Do I need a building permit for concrete work in New Bedford?

It depends on the job, and the state sends homeowners to the local building official because the answer turns on project specifics. When residential work does need a permit, it has to carry the contractor's active registration number. We sort out which offices your job goes through as part of the estimate and handle the permit paperwork we're able to file.

Do you guarantee your concrete work?

Yes, every job we do is satisfaction guaranteed. I write your estimate and run the pour myself, so the person you talk to about the job is the one who did it.

Will my new concrete slab crack like the old one did?

Concrete can crack, but most of the bad cracking we see traces back to a soft base, water running the wrong way, or control joints cut late or skipped, and each one is something we control. We dig out and pack the subgrade, check where the water runs so the slab falls away from your house, and cut joints in time so any crack forms where we chose. We also stay away from pouring in the worst midday heat, which can leave a weak, dusty top.

Which building code covers my house in New Bedford?

New Bedford homes fall under the Massachusetts State Building Code, and one- and two-family houses and townhouses three stories or less, along with their accessory structures, use its residential volume. Every other building falls under the base volume. For a slab, footing or foundation, that decides which set of rules the work is checked against.
